A Private Residence in Mumbai, Mumbai
French Classicism Meets Mumbai Living
Kampani House occupies the 23rd floor of a residential high-rise in Mumbai, spanning approximately 2,500 sq ft. Conceived as an interpretation of French classicism within a contemporary urban setting, the apartment balances formal elegance with the adaptability required for everyday living.
Arrival into the home is mediated through a private lift lobby, where Bharat flooring in a black-and-yellow palette, detailed with floral inlay, establishes the project’s material and visual language. This transitions into a guest lobby that accommodates storage, seating, and curated artwork, setting up a gradual shift from threshold to interior. Select balconies introduce hand-carved stone elements, embedding moments of craftsmanship within the high-rise context.
The primary living space is designed as a flexible environment that accommodates both social and work functions. A system of operable doors allows the room to be reconfigured through the day, shifting between openness and enclosure as required. The interiors are anchored in a restrained white palette, layered with custom furniture, gold accents, and subtle three-dimensional mouldings that lend depth without excess. French-style double doors recur across the apartment, reinforcing a consistent architectural language.
The private zones continue this balance of clarity and detail. The daughter’s bedroom adopts a monochrome palette, integrating space for a piano alongside a study area. In contrast, the master bedroom introduces dark grey marble as a focal surface against otherwise light-toned interiors, extending into a walk-in closet articulated with moulded detailing. Within the master bathroom, a compact study niche is carved out, offering a secluded workspace within the most private part of the home.
Circulation is treated as a designed experience rather than a residual space. A 25-foot passage is articulated through an inlay pattern executed on site, transforming movement through the house into a crafted sequence. Throughout the apartment, storage is seamlessly integrated, while half-height mouldings add texture and proportion without resorting to heavy ornamentation.
